The Journal of Sociology and Psychology is honored to present to its esteemed readers the abstract of the article: “Contemporary Vietnamese Sociology: Half a Century and Four Decades of Doi Moi” by Bui The Cuong, published in the Sociology Issue, Volume 1 (2025).

The 50th anniversary of national reunification (1975-2025) and the 40th anniversary of Doi moi (1986-2026) are a good opportunity for the sociology community in Vietnam to reflect on the journey so far, reviewing and evaluating its academic and social contributions, and setting out a new vision for the future. In 2025-2026, the sociology community in Vietnam should carry out an action program titled “Contemporary Vietnamese Sociology - Half a Century and 40 Years of Doi Moi”, which encompass a range of activities across five key areas: academic development, policy contributions, social impacts, knowledge sharing, and human resource training. This would also involve the collaborative creation of a document archive on the history of Vietnamese sociology - an area of research that remains limited, little interested, and poorly funded. Such a program could give new vitality to sociology, expanding the influence of sociology in science, education, and society. It may also be a good suggestion for some other close social sciences such as social policy, social work, demography, philosophy, anthropology, economics, political science, education, public policy, and international relations, even in more distant disciplines like literature, history, linguistics, and also in the natural sciences and civil engineering.
